Episode 1: 1PM-2PM
Tony learns he’s been offered a promotion to a position at the CIA in Langley. However, he feels conflicted because there is no position available for Michelle, to whom he is now married, and doesn’t want her to sacrifice her career for his. CTU learns that terrorists are threatening to release a lethal biological weapon in LA unless druglord Ramon Salazar (who Jack spent a year undercover bringing down) is released from federal prison within six hours. President Palmer refuses to capitulate to these demands, so it is up to CTU to find the people behind the threat before they can release the virus.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Tony: Larry told me that he needs an answer from me by the end of the day. They’re in a hurry to fill the post.
Michelle: We both know you can’t pass this up, it’s a major career move. Call him and tell him it’s ‘yes’.
Tony: And you’ll come along as the wife?
Michelle: I’ll go anywhere with you. As long as I don’t have to cook.
Tony: Sweetheart, if you promise not to cook I will take you with me anywhere. But ah, if they don’t have a job for you, I’m not interested.
Episode 2: 2PM-3PM
Tony and Michelle brief Wayne Palmer, the President’s Chief of Staff, on the biothreat. Wayne reiterates that the President will not capitulate to terrorist demands. Tony notes that if they are expected to stop the virus, he can’t be dealing with any red tape. Later, Tony and his team support Jack and Chase in the field as they take down a suspect.
Golden Almeida Moment
Jack and Chase are preparing to raid the crackhouse where David Goss was ostensibly living. Chloe informs Tony that Jack has refused to wear the transmitters he set up because it would take too long to prepare them. After the many evolutions of their relationship, Tony is beyond taking it personally and simply replies with an offhand “whatever.”
Episode 3: 3PM-4PM
Jack raids the residence of the teenager suspected to be in possession of the virus, but when he arrives, Kyle Singer is already gone. The bag of white powder found in the apartment is tested for traces of the virus and both Kyle’s parents are tested for exposure. All tests come back negative. CTU suspects that Kyle was infected and he is actually the delivery device for the virus when his latency period has expired. CTU traces Kyle to a local mall using his cell phone and Tony takes a chopper there to intercept him. But before Tony can take Kyle into custody, he is shot in the neck by one of Salazar’s flunkies.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Chase: I’m done with this kid Parker, he’s said all he’s gonna say. I want back on the case.
Tony: Yeah well ah, we’re handling it now, Chase, alright?
Chase: Because Jack doesn’t want me there, right? Did he tell you why he’s cutting me out?
Tony: I don’t care. He’s your boss, it’s his call.
Chase: (grabs Tony’s arm) This isn’t right. Did he tell you it’s because of Kim? He found out we were seeing each other and this is how he’s gonna make me pay for it.
Tony: Take it up with Jack.
Episode 4: 4PM-5PM
Tony is rushed out of the mall on a stretcher and is put in an ambulence, on his way to the hospital for emergency surgery to try and save his life. Michelle is devastated when she finds out her husband has been shot, and the rest of CTU staff are stunned and saddened. Meanwhile, having lost the thread on Singer, Jack considers their only other option to stop the virus … break Ramon Salazar out of prison.
Golden Almeida Moment
Tony is rushed out of the mall to an ambulance, and that is the last we see of him this episode. We feel his absence as acutely as his wife and the rest of CTU, not knowing what’s happening, wanting him to be okay.
Episode 5: 5PM-6PM
Tony remains in surgery, unconscious and breathing through a tube. Michelle can’t stand the suspense and has Adam port a feed from the hospital observation camera to her system. After a few moments watching Tony’s surgery, her emotions get the best of her and she shuts down the feed. Meanwhile, CTU picks up the thread on Singer and takes him into custody, wasting several of Salazar’s goons in the process, and Jack’s attempt to break Ramon out incites a riot inside the prison.
Golden Almeida Moment
Michelle has a live feed of the operating room where the doctors are working on Tony piped to her system. Tony looks helpless and vulnerable, unconscious on the operating table. Michelle and the audience are overcome with emotion, and find it difficult to see their hero in such a state.
Episode 6: 6PM-7PM
The surgeon calls Michelle to tell her that Tony’s surgery was successful and he is expected to make a complete recovery with no permanent nerve damage. Meanwhile, Jack has successfully broken Ramon out of prison and has hijacked a helicopter. Ryan Chappelle arrives at CTU and assumes command. He believes Ramon Salazar must be stopped at any cost, so directs air teams to shoot down Jack’s chopper. Jack, however, enters metro airspace before the jets can get their shots off safely. CTU learns that Kyle Singer is not infected with the virus, and that the Salazars’ endgame is still unclear.
Golden Almeida Moment
Michelle learns that Tony is out of surgery and will make a full recovery. We are rewarded with the knowledge that the good and righteous prevail.
Episode 7: 7PM-8PM
Michelle receives word that Tony will regain consciousness soon and heads to the hospital to be with him. When he asks her what happened with Salazar, she informs him that Jack broke him out and that Gael Ortega was arrested as a traitor. Tony immediately jumps up and demands to be taken back to CTU. Michelle is concerned for her husband’s health, but reluctantly agrees to trust him. When they return to CTU, Tony interrupts Chappelle’s interrogation of Gael and drops a bomb … the entire virus threat and Ramon Salazar’s prison break was a hoax orchestrated by Jack, Tony and Gael to re-establish Jack’s cover with the Salazars, who are trying to purchase a bioweapon from Ukranian scientists to sell on the open market. Meanwhile, Jack takes a plane ride to Mexico with Ramon.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Doctor: Mr. Almeida, what are you doing?
Tony: Look. I have to get out of here, alright? You can release me to CTU Medical if you want.
Doctor: I can’t do that.
Tony: Alright, look! Look! If you’re worried about liability, my wife’ll sign me out. Look, Michelle. If I ever needed you to trust me, it’s NOW.
Episode 8: 8PM-9PM
Tony explains the circumstances of his and Jack’s secret operation to President Palmer and the rest of CTU staff. Palmer isn’t pleased with the deception, but allows the operation to proceed under Tony’s leadership. Kim explains that Chase has followed Jack to Las Nieves against CTU’s authority, and Tony contacts a Mexican Intelligence Agent in hopes of intercepting him before he can botch the operation. Unfortunately, Chase is captured and the agent is killed. Michelle is hurt that Tony was able to deceive her by keeping he and Jack’s plans from her, but Tony insists that the obligations of his job have nothing to do with his feelings for her.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Chappelle: I’m not so sure this is going to work out well for you, Almeida.
Tony: Maybe not. But right now, I gotta help Jack get this virus, and I don’t need you looking over my shoulder, alright?
Chappelle: You work for me. You don’t give orders, you take them.
Tony: Yeah. Except the President put me in charge of this particular operation. Now if you object, give him a call! (offers the phone) But I don’t get the impression he’s in the mood for any bureaucratic squabbling today…
Episode 9: 9PM-10PM
Unbeknownst to Tony, the tracker in Jack’s watch has been damaged and is no longer transmitting. Chappelle warns Tony that if they don’t get the operation back on track, he’ll pay the price. A communication breakdown causes Kim to approach Michelle with concerns that Tony’s health is impeding his ability to lead CTU. When Michelle approaches Tony, he is confrontational and defensive, which leads Michelle to bring Chappelle in. Chappelle gives Tony an impromptu “test” to determine if he is still on the ball. Tony passes with flying colours, but is extremely angry at Michelle for her disloyalty.
Golden Almeida Moment
Chappelle tests Tony’s memory and alertness by turning off a screen monitor seconds after Tony enter the room and asking him to describe what was on it. Tony busts out with everything correct and also offers legitimate explanations for the supposed errors he made, which were actually Kim’s errors. Not only are we all relieved that he is fit for duty and is going to be ok, but we realize that in retrospect, when he seemed to be acting snarky towards Kim, in reality he was actually exercising a great deal of restraint by not chewing her out for her novice mistakes.
Episode 10: 10PM-11PM
When Hector contacts Gael, Tony and his team are relieved to learn that Jack is alive and the virus interception operation is still on target. Tony is shocked when Hector mentions that a another virus buyer has emerged – Nina Myers. Michelle tries to mend fences with her husband over her assertion that he should not be working in his condition, but Tony is still sore and is not ready to forgive her.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Michelle: I owe you an apology.
Tony: You don’t. Look, if you thought I wasn’t fit to do my job, then you had a duty to report it. But you should know that I would never risk the effectiveness of this unit just to prove how tough I am.
Michelle: I know that, I just felt that-…
Tony: I know what you felt! You made that perfectly clear.
Episode 11: 11PM-12AM
When Kim learns of Nina’s involvement with the virus, she is extremely upset. Tony takes her aside and tries to calm her down. Later, she approaches him privately and implores him to make sure that Nina is punished for violating her pardon agreement. Tony assures her he will do whatever he can. Meanwhile, CTU prepares their assault teams for the virus exchange between Nina and Amador.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Kim: I’ve spent the last three years of my life knowing that the woman who killed my mother was pardoned by the President. And that she’s out there, living her life. And it’s wrong.
Tony: I know.
Kim: She’s violating her pardon, isn’t she? She’s buying and selling the virus.
Tony: Kim…
Kim: We cannot let her get away this time!
Tony: OK, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here…
Kim: Please, Tony! She has to pay for what she’s done! Promise me when this is all over you’ll at least help make that happen.
[phone rings]
Chloe’s voice: Tony, this is Chloe, is Kim there?
Tony: Yeah.
Chloe: I need her.
Tony: Alright, she’s on her way.
[Dejected, Kim turns to leave]
Tony: Kim! I’ll do what I can.
Episode 12: 12AM-1AM
Things remain tense between Tony and Michelle as the interception draws closer, and the pressure on Tony only mounts when Wayne Palmer reminds him of the stakes. Kim takes her concerns about Chloe’s mental stability to Tony, but Tony is unwilling to pull Chloe off the operation until the interception is over. He assigns Kim to watch the mysterious baby and proceeds with the operation. Things do not go as planned, as Ramon Salazar is killed in an explosion, Nina Myers escapes and Michael Amador flees the scene with the virus.
Golden Almeida Moment
After the interception goes to hell, Ramon is blown up and Amador ambushes CTU’s Delta team, Jack is finally able to speak to Tony directly using Chase’s phone. He gives Tony a rundown on their situation with Ramon, and reminds Tony that Nina Myers is “still out there.” The massive implications of this are not spoken, but are seen clearly on both men’s faces. They both want their revenge. This is the first time that Jack and Tony directly discuss Nina with one another on screen since the first season. We look forward to more intense discussion in the next hour.
Episode 13: 1AM-2AM
After Jack and Chase take Nina into custody, they make their way back to LA by plane. During the flight, Nina reveals information about an Amador associate in LA. Tony and his team follow up on her intel and it appears on the surface to be reliable. However, Nina uses CTU’s eagerness for a lead on Amador to her advantage and triggers a computer worm designed to undermine agency network security, making undercover agents vulnerable. Tony, Chloe and Adam try desperately to get the worm under control, but it appears they will be forced to give in to Nina’s demands to return to Mexico and release her in exchange for the kill code. Tony orders the pilot to change course, but Jack takes matters into his own hands when he forces the pilot at gunpoint to land in LA. Thankfully, Chloe is able to stop the worm in time and disaster is averted.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Tony: Lieutenant, what’s going on!? Why aren’t you turning this plane around?
Pilot: Bauer won’t let me.
Tony: Whataya mean he won’t let you?
Pilot: He’s got a gun on me.
Tony: Put me on speaker! … Jack, can you hear me?
Jack: Yeah I can hear you Tony, and we’re landing this plane in Los Angeles!
Tony: We need that kill code. Tell the pilot to turn the plane around right now, that’s an order, straight from Division!
Jack: We can’t keep giving into her!
Tony: I can’t take that chance. We have to stop this thing, or a lot of our agents are gonna wind up DEAD!
Episode 14: 2AM-3AM
When Jack arrives at CTU with Nina, Chappelle insists Jack must answer for his heroin use on duty and refuses to let Jack interrogate her, so the interrogation instead falls on Tony. Coming face to face with Nina for the first time since learning she betrayed him, Tony takes a hard line. Nina refuses to give up any information and instead amuses herself by taunting Tony about their past history. In response, Tony brings in their torture expert to work on her. As usual, Nina finds a way to twist the situation to her advantage and deliberately shoves her neck into one of the torture needles, causing her to bleed out. Tony tries to stop the bleeding and observes as the paramedics drug Nina to put her under. Believing she is unconscious, Tony leaves the room to inform Jack and Chappelle of the situation, allowing Nina the opportunity to escape custody.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Nina: I’ve already told Jack everything I know.
Tony: I want you to tell me.
Nina: First Jack, now you. Hmm…what does that remind me of?
Tony: You told Jack that Amador might try to contact a Marcus Alvers. So … where do we look for Alvers?
Nina: That’s a nice ring. Who’s the lucky girl? I hope you did a background check though, cuz you don’t want to make the same mistake twice.
Tony: You’re going back to prison. There’s a good chance you’ll be executed as a traitor. Now you know if you co-operate you may be able to save your own life, but you’re stalling, which means you know something and you still think there’s a play you can make, only now’s not the right time.
Nina: Very incisive. I hope your wife appreciates that about you.
Tony: I want you to tell me about Alvers.
Nina: All I know is that he works only with Amador. I don’t know him personally.
Tony: Well, all we’ve been able to dig up on him are a few random medical records under one of his known aliases. He had an MRI on one of his knees, there’s a prescription for antibiotics, treated for HIV …
Dalton: (over the earpiece) Her pulse is spiking. Someone hasn’t been using protection with Marcus Alvers.
Michelle: She’s probably had sex with him.
Tony: See Nina, my colleagues in the next room tell me something in those medical records concerns you. I’m guessing it’s not the knee.
Nina: [wordless smirk]
Episode 15: 3AM-4AM
Jack, Chase and the field team leave CTU to pursue a lead on Michael Amador in Chinatown. After taking Amador into custody, Jack and Chase search his computer and discover schematics for the Chandler Plaza Hotel in LA, which suggests this hotel could be a target for release of the virus. When Tony discovers that Chappelle is sending Michelle to the hotel to head up tactical because she has the most experience in bio disaster management, he is very concerned for Michelle’s safety and suggests that he find someone else to take her place. Michelle vehemently rejects his suggestion and acknowledges Chappelle’s call as the right one. She leaves for the Chandler Plaza with Gael as backup.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Tony: Most of you already know, but for those of you who don’t, Jack Bauer shot and killed Nina Myers while she was trying to escape custody.
Chloe: The order from Division specified that we use non-lethal force.
Tony: It’s over, Chloe. She’s dead.
Episode 16: 4AM-5AM
Tony is devastated to learn that Michelle defied his orders to wait for biosuits and was inside the Chandler Plaza Hotel without protective gear when the virus was released. She informs him that Alvers confessed to the existence of eleven other vials, but he claims that’s the extent of his knowledge. After consulting with Nicole Duncan at National Health Services, Tony learns just how grave Michelle’s future looks. Michelle reveals that Alvers claims he doctored the virus with an accelerant designed to shorten the latency period to less than an hour, which is confirmed by the fact that Gael is already exhibiting symptoms of infection.
Golden Almeida Moment
Michelle explains to Tony that the virus has been released in the ventilation system of the Chandler Plaza Hotel. She also tells him that Alvers claims there are 11 other vials containing the virus apart from the one used to infect the hotel. Tony wonders how Alvers left the hotel to tell Michelle this. Michelle tells Tony that Alvers is still in the basement of the hotel. Tony realizes that Michelle is inside the hotel and has been exposed to the virus, but because of his love for his wife, can’t help but succumb to denial that she will not be able to get out and there is nothing he can do to save her at this point. He hangs up the phone and places his head in his hands, his wedding ring shining front and center.
Episode 17: 5AM-6AM
Tony and his team work in conjunction with Michelle at the Chandler Plaza to have Marcus Alvers pick out his boss from photos of Jack’s past contacts. Alvers IDs the man as Stephen Saunders – a member of Jack’s team from Operation Nightfall in Kosovo who has been presumed dead for seven years. Chappelle reprimands Tony for expending energy worrying about his wife and accuses him of slipping. He issues Tony an ultimatum – focus on the operation or resign. Tony elects to stay on. Michelle informs Tony of how she watched Gael die, and suggests CTU offer the people inside the hotel the choice to end their own lives by supplying them with suicide capsules. Tony agrees to assist her request and somehow gets Chappelle to support his decision.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Tony: [caught by Chappelle removing a case out of the Field Ops storage locker] Suicide capsules. For the people down at the hotel. It’s gonna get pretty bad down there.
Chappelle: It’s against every regulation in the book.
Tony: Yeah.
Chappelle: [long pause] Do it.
Episode 18: 6AM-7AM
Tony continues to worry about Michelle’s welfare after being exposed to the virus. Jack learns from Palmer of Saunders’ demand that Ryan Chappelle be killed and confides in Tony. Tony helps Jack plan a strategy for dealing with Chappelle. Michelle informs Tony that someone exposed to the virus left the hotel before it was quarantined, and is likely spreading it in the general population. Michelle finds a fingerprint and Tony’s team gets to work on IDing this man. Meanwhile, when Chase’s takedown comes up empty, Jack is forced to execute Chappelle.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Michelle: I realize we’ve both been talking around this, but … if my test comes back positive …
Tony: Michelle. Don’t go there.
Michelle: Sweetheart, we both know my chances of survival are low.
Tony: You still have a chance and while there’s still a chance … I don’t want to talk about this.
Michelle: Ok. Ok…I just, no matter what, I just want you to know. The last three years have been the best years of my life.
Tony: (fighting tears) I should be there with you.
Michelle: You are.
Tony: No, it’s not the same.
Michelle: The best thing you can do for me right now is to make sure those capsules get here.
Tony: I’ll do my best.
Michelle: I know you will.
Episode 19: 7AM-8AM
Chloe discovers that Saunders wanted Chappelle dead because he had uncovered information about Saunders’ daughter Jane. Jack tells Tony their best bet to locate Saunders is to use his daughter as leverage and suggests initiating a plain sight swap so that CTU can question Jane undetected. Tensions rise between Jack and Tony when it turns out that Kim Bauer is the best agent to pose as Jane during the operation, but in the end, CTU forges ahead with this plan. When Chase gives Tony static about putting Kim in the field, Tony is forced to put Chase in his place.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Jack: You’re not sending her into the field.
Tony: She can handle it. Plus she has a safety net.
Jack: Find someone else, Tony.
Tony: Jack, you said yourself, we need to get Saunders’ daughter without him knowing. Kim’s our best shot at doing that.
Jack: She’s not doing it.
Tony: It’s not up to you. It’s her decision.
Jack: Fine. I’ll order her not to do it. [Starts into the room where Kim is. Tony grabs him and pushes him back. They scuffle]
Tony: She doesn’t work for you, Jack, she works for me!!!
Jack: [sticking his finger right in Tony's face] Don’t.
Episode 20: 8AM-9AM
Palmer decides not to capitulate to any further demands from Stephen Saunders and instructs Tony and Jack to use his daughter Jane against him if necessary. Jane helps CTU locate Saunders and Jack’s team sets off to arrest him. Michelle gets her test results back and informs Tony that she is one of the few lucky people inside the hotel to be immune to the virus. Tony’s intense relief is short-lived, however, when he discovers that Saunders has kidnapped Michelle on her way out of the hotel. Saunders threatens to have his men kill Michelle if Tony does not help him escape from the building CTU has surrounded. Tony has no choice but to comply, and undermines Jack’s operation by ordering men away from the back entrance so Saunders can slip out.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Tony: (busting tears) I can’t believe I almost lost you.
Michelle: I almost lost you too. But we’re still here.
Episode 21: 9AM-10AM
In an effort to cover his betrayal of CTU, Tony deletes the incriminating satellite frames showing Saunders’ escape, but it doesn’t take Chloe and Adam long to discover this suspicious activity. They conclude someone in Tony’s group was working with Saunders and set about to uncover who it was. Meanwhile, Jack arrives back at CTU and learns from Adam about the “traitor.” When Jack confronts him, Tony suggests he and Jack work up the situation themselves before alerting Division. Jack agrees, but is troubled by Tony’s strange demeanour. When he discovers Tony lied to him about a status call with Hammond, he relieves Tony of his command. This intereferes greatly with Saunders’ directive that Tony get his daughter Jane out of CTU and deliver her to him. When a forged transfer order fails to work, Tony tazers the guard watching Jane and rushes her out of CTU and into an SUV, then speeds away. By this point, Chloe has deduced that Saunders is holding Michelle hostage. Jack races to the parking lot to stop Tony, but it’s too late — Tony is gone, taking the only leverage CTU has over Stephen Saunders with him.
Golden Tony Dialogue
Saunders: Has Jane arrived?
Tony: Yeah.
Saunders: Where is she?
Tony: She’s here.
Saunders: Put her on.
Tony: No. You have my wife, I want to talk to her first.
Saunders: You don’t give me orders.
Tony: You’re wrong. I have your daughter, which means I’m in charge. Now if you so much as touch my wife, I will slit Jane’s throat.
Saunders: Hold on.
Episode 22: 10AM-11AM
Adam and Jack locate Tony quickly using satellite, and Jack runs him off the road en route to Taylor and Vine. Jack convinces Tony that his best chance to save Michelle is to work with CTU so that CTU can control the exchange and arrest Saunders. Tony is terrified that Saunders will kill Michelle before CTU can take him down, but he knows that at this point, he has no choice but to go along with Jack’s plan. Tony convinces Saunders to change the exchange site to the 6th Street Bridge and Jack has Chase place covert teams on site. Before the exchange time, Michelle manages to escape from Saunders, but Jack convinces her the only way to bring Saunders down is to let him recapture her so he’ll expose himself at the exchange. During the exchange, Saunders’ man releases Michelle and Tony releases Jane, but Jane gets scared and tries to run. Saunders jumps out of his truck to call to his daughter and CTU swoops in. Saunders flees, but Jack gives chase and apprehends him just as the Air Force bombs Saunders’ helicopter into oblivion. Meanwhile, Tony and Michelle embrace in an emotionally charged reunion.
Golden Almeida Quote
“Just because you sacrificed your wife for this job doesn’t mean I’m gonna sacrifice mine!!!”
Episode 23: 11AM-12PM
In the aftermath of Saunders’ capture, Tony is frisked, stripped of his gun and arrested on the order of Brad Hammond, depsite vehement protests from Chase and Jack. Jack tries to convince Hammond to let Tony off the hook, but to no avail. When Tony returns to CTU, he is immediately taken to a holding room amidst reproachful glares from Chloe, disbelieving stares from Adam and sympathetic gazes from Kim. Hammond informs him that even if he uses his influence, the best he can do would be to ensure Tony does not get the death penalty; Tony will still face at least 20 years in prison. The reality of his siuation begins to set in, yet Tony still does not regret for a second saving his wife’s life.
Golden Almeida Dialogue
Jack: What’s going on?
Nameless CTU Agent: My orders are to take Almeida into custody, that’s straight from Brad Hammond at Division.
Jack: [pause. Looks directly into Tony's eyes as he is being hauled away] I’m sorry, Tony. There’s nothing we can do right now.
Tony: Just take care of business, Jack. I’ll be alright. [is hauled away by Nameless CTU Agents]
Episode 24: 12PM-1PM
Rae Plachecki takes Tony’s videotaped statement, and Tony does not mince words. He confesses straight out that he willingly put Michelle’s life above national security. When Gael Ortega’s wife Teresa shoots Stephen Saunders before he can identify the LA virus courier, Michelle convinces Hammond to let Tony back on the floor temporarily to co-ordinate the tactical effort to track him down. Tony works with Jack and Chase to secure the virus, but once the crisis has passed, Hammond wastes no time in taking him back into custody. Tony receives a brief moment to say goodbye to his wife. Emotionally, he embraces Michelle and kisses her passionately. He expresses no regret for saving her life. She vows to wait for him as he’s hauled away to prison for who knows how long.
Golden Almeida Quote
“Baby, you’re alive. And nobody else got hurt because of what I did. Now that’s more than I hoped for. I can live with that. Even in prison.”
