CTU, now led by George Mason, learns that terrorists plan to detonate a nuclear bomb in LA during the next 24 hours and they are racing against the clock to stop it. Having promised Jack that he would look out for Kim, Tony clashes with Mason over his decision to reassign the agent sent to take her out of LA. When Mason claims he’s following a lead outside the city, Tony accuses him of putting his own safety above the welfare of the country.

Golden Almeida Dialogue
Tony: George, where you going?
Mason: Bakersfield.
Tony: What for?
Mason: Following up on a lead. You know, we’re short-handed today so I’ve gotta cover it myself.
Tony: Peter’s assigned to Bakersfield.
Mason: Yeah, I put him on something else.
Tony: Why?
Mason: I don’t have to tell you that.
Tony: Well, I guess I disagree. I mean, if you’re just trying to get outside the blast radius…

Episode 3: 10AM-11AM

With Mason in the field, Tony is in charge of CTU. NSA requests that CTU transfer all intel to NSA servers, but Tony becomes suspicious after learning they’re the only agency ordered to do so. He gets a note from a visitor to CTU saying a bomb is in the building and attempts to evacuate, but the bomb goes off before everyone can get out, leaving CTU in shambles and dozens of agents dead.

Episode 4: 11AM-12PM

CTU is in utter chaos in the wake of the explosion. Tony finds Paula trapped under a girder and assists the rescue squad in extracting her while Michelle attempts to restore order in the office. As Paula is transported to an ambulence, Mason returns and orders the paramedics to revive her so CTU retrieve the decryption key used to transfer intel about the bomb to NSA. Tony argues that Paula deserves a chance to live, but Mason must make the difficult choice to sacrifice Paula in order to stop the bomb and save millions. Tony feels guilty and wrong, but can’t deny Mason made the right call.

Mason: Tell yourself that if it makes you feel better.
Tony: This girl deserves a chance to live.

Mason and Michelle appear to have the Paula situation under control, so when Tony receives word that there is an LA connection to one of the terrorists on CTU’s suspect list, he ventures into the field to pursue it. He arrives at the Warner house, wearing his badass aviator sunglasses, in search of Reza Naiyeer. Naiyeer denies any involvement, but is at a loss to explain why Syed Ali’s name shows up on his computer.

Golden Almeida Dialogue
Mason: Send somebody else. I need you here.
Tony: To do what, watch Paula die?

Episode 6: 1PM-2PM

Tony presses Reza even harder for answers, but Reza continues to deny any involvement or knowledge of a terrorist plot. Finally, when Tony threatens to arrest Reza in front of his parents, he confesses at last — confesses that his future father-in-law and boss Bob Warner is the one who signed suspicious transfer orders.

Golden Almeida Dialogue
Tony: You ever hear of the Finsbury Park mosque? It’s considered to be one of the main recruitment centers for Islamic terrorists in the West. Their main targets are European Muslims’ with Western educations passports and the potential to blend into Western society. And do you know where that mosque is located? Your hometown. London. So tell me Reza, how’s my racial profiling going now?
Reza: I want a lawyer.
Tony: No.

Episode 7: 2PM-3PM

Both Bob Warner and Reza Naiyeer continue to deny any involvement whatsoever with terrorists and point the finger at each other. Tony calls Mason, who advises him to bring them both back to CTU for further interrogation and gives him the authority to arrest both men should they resist.

Golden Almeida Dialogue
Reza: I’m not going with you anywhere!
Tony: Look. I’m not arresting anybody. YET. But I will if you force me to. Now, you’re comin’ with us either way. How we do this is entirely up to you.

Episode 8: 3PM-4PM

Tony returns to CTU with Reza Naiyeer and Bob Warner in tow. As soon as he gets Tony alone, Warner reveals that he is a consultant for the CIA, and let the CIA use his company to transfer secure information. When Tony informs Mason, Mason flies off the handle and attacks Reza, and Tony must break things up. Later, Tony checks in on Michelle, who is clearly stressed and on edge. Tony tries to reassure her that everything will be OK, and their connection deepens.

Golden Almeida Dialogue
Tony: Hey, your neck’s bleeding here…
Michelle: [after feeling it] It’s somebody else’s blood.
Tony: Look, Michelle. Why don’t you take a few minutes, get cleaned up and change. You’ll feel better. [whispers] Hey. We’re gonna survive this day, alright?

Episode 9: 4PM-5PM

Tony, Mason and Michelle pit Bob and Reza against each other by offering immunity to the first one who talks. Reza caves first and offers to take CTU to the Warner company headquarters, where he’s certain that transaction records will prove his innocence. Meanwhile, after confronting Mason about his erratic behaviour, Tony learns of Mason’s lethal radiation exposure earlier in the day. When Michelle figures out the situation, she pressures Tony to relieve Mason of duty, but Tony stands up for Mason and urges her to keep quiet.

Golden Almeida Dialogue
Tony: I don’t get you, George. You know, one minute you’re running away, trying to save your own ass, the next minute you’re back here trying to act like you actually give a damn about anybody but yourself…
George: Hey! Back off.
Tony: No, I’m not gonna back off, George. Not today.

Episode 10: 5PM-6PM

After learning that it was members of the American military who attacked Jack, Tony reveals to him that Bob Warner has ties to the CIA. The two men worry about the implications of this information. Meanwhile, Michelle finally tells Tony straight out that she has feelings for him. Tony tells her the feelings are mutual, but he is reluctant to pursue them because of his past with Nina.

Golden Almeida Dialogue
Michelle: I just wanted you to know that if you wanted to go out sometime…
Tony: Michelle…
Michelle: No, look uh, you don’t have to say anything. I just wanted you to know how I feel.
Tony: No, Michelle… I feel the same way. I’ve just been keeping my distance because, um…
Michelle: Because of what happened between you and Nina?
Tony: Yeah.
Michelle: So you think I just want you for your information?
Tony: (chuckles) So uh, what are we saying here? If we save L.A. from a nuclear bomb, then you and I can get together for dinner and a movie?

Episode 11: 6PM-7PM

Tony acknowledges that he is excited to start a relationship with Michelle, despite his earlier trepidation regarding fraternizing with co-workers. Tony later learns that Marie Warner killed Reza and two CTU agents at the Warner company offices. Tony tells Jack and warns him to be wary of Marie’s sister Kate, whom Jack has just rescued from the clutches of Syed Ali and his flunky. When Tony breaks the news to Bob Warner, Warner is suspicious of Tony’s motives and thinks it’s a trap.

Tony stays true to his promise to Jack and continues looking for Kim, deliberately ignoring George’s orders not to devote any more resources to her.

Episode 13: 8PM-9PM

Tony must break to the bad news to Jack that Kim hasn’t been located yet. Jack implores Tony to continue with his search for her. Meanwhile, Division suit Brad Hammond arrives and informs CTU that they plan to move their operation to Division headquarters, due to the chaos of the earlier explosion. Both Mason and Tony disagree with this, believing that it would waste precious time they don’t have in transporting equipment and personnel. Hammond reluctantly agrees to let them continue in their current, albeit damaged, location.

Golden Almeida Quote
“We just don’t have time to give these idiots from Division a grand tour!”

Episode 14: 9PM-10PM

Mason feels that his health has deteriorated to a point where he can no longer continue to lead CTU. He informs Tony of his decision, and also of the fact that Tony has now been promoted to Director of CTU. Tony informs the rest of CTU staff about the personnel change and promptly makes himself at home in Mason’s office. He appears confident and in control.

Mason: You’re the new CTU Director, Tony.
Tony: You can’t promote me, George. Chappelle’s the only one who can do that.

Episode 15: 10PM-11PM

Foreign intelligence agent Yusuf Auda arrives at CTU with the contents of Syed Ali’s safehouse as part of Palmer’s intelligence sharing agreement from earlier in the day. Tony is suspicious of Auda and does not want him in on any sensitive intel. In the meantime, Tony learns that given the bomb cannot be disarmed, Jack is on a suicide mission to detonate the bomb safely outside of LA. Jack asks Tony to take care of his affairs for him. Tony finally hears from Kim and connects her with Jack. Ultimately, Jack informs Tony that Mason will pilot the plane instead and Tony is relieved not to lose Jack.

Golden Almeida Dialogue
Auda: Mr. Almeida. I and my country have shown good faith in helping you to find Syed Ali’s safehouse in the first place. I’m just asking you to do the same by giving me some idea of what’s going on.
Tony: I’m sorry but I can’t tell you at this time. [turns to leave]
Auda: You Americans…
Tony: [stops, turns back with a tough-guy gaze] We Americans what?

In the wake of the detonation, CTU focuses on authenticating the recording implicating Ali’s home country and 2 other Middle Eastern countries in the terrorist attack. Michelle interrogates Ali, who claims the recording is a forgery, depsite CTU’s analysis that it is authentic. Tony feels that they should trust their analysis and proceed accordingly. When Jack returns from the field, Michelle confides in him about her hesitation and the two of them work together to follow up. After Ali is assassinated by a sniper on the roof of CTU, Jack receives a call from a mysterious source that the recording was indeed forged and Michelle helps him remove Kate Warner from CTU illegally at the source’s request. Tony, alerted by Carrie, tries to stop Jack at gunpoint, but Jack punches him in the face and flees.

Golden Almeida Dialogue
Jack: Tony. The President is going to make some very, very serious decisions based on the information that he got from that recording. If there’s the slightest chance that that thing is not genuine, you have a responsibility to-
Tony: God, are you gonna lecture me on responsibility, Jack? I mean, come on, we both know how you work. You consider going against the grain as some sort of virtue!
Jack: Why are you talking to me like this?
Tony: Cuz I’ve got a job to do and I don’t appreciate being told how to do it.
Jack: I’m just trying to help.
Tony: [sigh] Look, I don’t need your help, Jack.

Nonetheless, Tony’s instincts tell him otherwise and he asks Carrie to monitor Michelle’s communications.

He is dismissive of her, but allows her to keep her job.

Golden Almeida Dialogue
Tony: Listen carefully, Michelle. You don’t work for Jack, you work for me.
Michelle: Would you get past your ego for one sec-
Tony: Ego!? I’ve got a job to do here and if you don’t like the way I do it, that’s your problem. But if you know anything about Jack Bauer you’d better tell me about it right now!
Michelle: I have no information. I’m not helping Jack.
Tony: [softly into her ear] I hope you’re not lying to me.

By now, Tony is certain that Jack’s evidence will hold weight and tries to convince Chappelle so. Chappelle threatens to withdraw his future support of Tony’s promotion if he doesn’t go along. Carrie attempts to blackmail Tony into giving her Michelle’s job by threatening to tell Chappelle that Tony has been helping Jack behind his back. Tony calls Carrie’s bluff and Chappelle grudgingly allows Tony to continue his operation, acknowledging that there is no one qualified to take his place in the midst of a crisis.

Golden Almeida Dialogue
Chappelle: Don’t make me the bad guy here, Tony. George Mason may have recommended you to direct CTU, but you’ll need my blessing to stay on. I assume that’s what you want.
Tony: What I want is to do what’s right in this situation.

Episode 21: 4AM-5AM

Jack has recovered the chip from the men who killed Yusuf Auda, but determines with Tony and Michelle that the data was corrupted when the chip was damaged. Tony questions Chappelle as to why the military offensive may be reinstated, being as Palmer called off the strike. Tony believes that they will soon have hard evidence to support Jack’s position, but Chappelle remains very skeptical. When Chappelle learns that the information on the chip cannot definitely corroborate Jack’s theory, he orders CTU once and for all to forget about Jack.

Chappelle informs CTU staff of Palmer’s removal from office and Prescott’s ascension to the presidency. Tony, now positive the Cyprus Audio was forged, pledges to help Jack and Palmer prove it, even if it means an end to his career at CTU.  However, Chappelle gets in with a pre-emptive strike, and informs Tony he’s been reassigned and to exit CTU premises immediately. Tony enlists Michelle’s help and they execute a morally questionable plan to take Chappelle out of play long enough for Jack to deliver his evidence.

Unfortunately, Hammond arrives with his entourage and discovers Chappelle’s unconscious body. He promptly arrests both Tony and Michelle. Chappelle orders the chopper back to CTU without Jack and Hewitt, leaving Jack to fend for himself if he ever intends on proving the Cyprus Audio was forged.

Golden Almeida Moment
Tony and Michelle, bound together in the handcuffs of love, sit in a CTU holding room. Tony offers to take the fall for both of them like the white knight he is, but Michelle refuses to let him take the blame. They hold hands in solidarity out of the prying view of the surveillance camera.

Episode 24: 7AM-8AM

Under pressure from Mike Novick to assist Jack’s investigation, Chappelle wants information from Tony on how to contact Jack. Tony agrees to help Chappelle, but only if the charges against he and Michelle are dropped and they are both reinstated. Chappelle isn’t happy, but he agrees. Tony helps Chappelle set up the technical equipment for Sherry Palmer’s meet with Peter Kingsley. When Sherry gets Kingsley to confirm that the Cyprus Audio was forged, Prescott calls off the military strikes and Palmer is reinstated to office. Chappelle, apparently forgetting that mere hours earlier he fired Tony, congratulates him on a job well done. Michelle stops by and Tony tells her that he admires her for making difficult decisions and going against him when she knew it was the right thing to do. They smile flirtatiously.

Golden Almeida Quote
“Well, uh… it’s like this. Either fire me, or get out of my chair.”
