Posted by Kasia on December 31, 2009 at 1:42pm » Comment

Carlos Bernard wants to hold ‘em like they do in Texas, please. Everybody’s favourite soulpatch is laying down his buy-in to the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, which will kick off on Monday, January 4 at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort & Casino in the Bahamas. Carlos is no stranger to the felt, having appeared on Celebrity Poker Showdown and the World Poker Tour “Hollywood Home Game” in 2005.

But competition will be fierce. In addition to the plethora of seasoned poker pros and savvy newcomers looking for their big break at this multi-million dollar event, a number of other big-name Hollywood celebs will be joining Carlos at the tables, including ex-GnR guitarist Slash, rapper Nelly, talk show host Montel Williams and hockey star Mats Sundin.

PokerStars.tv will be providing coverage via webcast, so stay tuned for news on how Carlos is doing and any available video coverage of his event play as the tournament progresses.  For more information, please see this source post — “Celebrities Flock to 2010 PCA” at PokerListings.com.

Trash Cinema Club Trashes Season 7 and Tony

Posted by Kasia on December 19, 2009 at 11:12am » 1 Comment

TrashCinemaClub.com has posted their review of the first half of the Season 7 DVD release, and it’s a little less than glowing.  Reviewer Michael Kydonieus writes:

I suppose it was inevitable. 24 was one of the shows that changed the rules of television. The production values were close to that of a theatrical movie. Instead of doling out plot points like Ebeneezer Scrooge, for the first six seasons of 24, the producers recklessly piled on reversals and jeopardy as if the world was going to end tomorrow. For the first six seasons, 24 was compulsively watchable.

24 is still watchable, mostly due to residual professionalism, but it’s no longer electrifying.

Season 6 was compulsively watchable?  I guess I didn’t get that memo. (more …)

MenOfTV.com Features Carlos Bernard

Posted by Kasia on December 17, 2009 at 12:32pm » 3 Comments

MenofTV.com, which appears to be a blog devoted solely to  TV actors with their shirts off, has featured Carlos Bernard as their shirtless tasty for today, using a screencap from the shirtless scene in 7×20.  As a side note, I’m not sure if this site is just new and hasn’t had a chance to get there yet, or whether they’ve been willfully neglectful, but where is the Bamber?  BSG’s Lee Adama in a towel has to be the most memorable shirtless screen tasty experience I’ve ever enjoyed.

The Best of TV in 2009

Posted by Kasia on December 12, 2009 at 11:43am » 5 Comments

What you are about to read is a follow-up piece in response to Gareth’s article at TV or Not TV on the best and worst of TV 2009.  Be warned that this post may contain spoilers about TV shows that readers in the UK and elsewhere overseas have not yet seen.

It is not that often that AIG covers things not specifically related to 24 or Carlos Bernard outside of the Other TV Shows area on our message forum, but it’s a lonely Friday night in Edmonton with the temperature dropping to levels that are unimaginably vicious for most of you, just me and my blog and some Three Olives Cherry/Diet Pepsi and a couple other vices (like flannel pajamas), wasting some time.  Crap, I think I just admitted to the interweb that I’m drinking alone.

I really enjoyed Gareth’s recent article, and it got me thinking about what my picks would be if I could write the same piece.  But since I wasn’t smart enough to have the idea first, I’ll have to settle for this rebuttal.  So without further ado, here are my personal response-nominees to Gareth’s list.  I’m not going to cover all the categories he does, just the biggest ones.  But be warned, dear readers, that my treatment of comedy will be extremely light, as truthfully I don’t follow that many of them. Gareth over at TV or Not TV has posted a hilarious “Year In Review” piece, dishing out a flurry of smart and funny commentary on the greatest performances, biggest disappointments and other goodies on the boob tube in 2009.  24’s seventh season is featured prominently!  Highlights:

TV or Not TV Nominee for Man of the Year – Carlos Bernard:

I couldn’t forget the Almeida could I!?

‘24’s seventh season seems like a lifetime ago but it was only back at the start of the year that we got to witness the resurrection of possibly the most beloved character on the show.

Brought back from the dead, Carlos Bernard’s Tony Almeida went on one hell of a journey through ‘24’s seventh day, culminating in his master plan to avenge the murder of his wife and unborn child being thwarted and him being carted away in bracelets.

Almeida’s journey was by far and away the best thing about season 7 and encompassed some great moments as well as some truly shocking moments. This was the first chance the producers gave Bernard to really sink his teeth in to Tony and he did not disappoint, which makes his reported absence from season 8 all the more mind-boggling. According to cinematographer Rodney Charters’ Twitter Feed, it sounds like the cast and crew of 24 are anticipating the show will wrap for good on network television in Spring 2010, at the end of the 8th Season.  Charters states:

At a fine restaurant debating how we will cope with the demise of 24. It’s family, unimaginable to walk away from 9 years of camaraderie

and

Celebrating with Kiefer the extraordinary gift of 24 mindful that our continuance not expected nor even discussed or in contractual talks

While I can’t imagine this comes as a surprise to most fans, who have been aware of the show’s uncertain future after this season since the summer when a number of sources reported that FOX had no plans in the works to renew after Season 8, I can imagine it does come as quite a disappointment to the Tony Almeida contingent after last month’s unhappy news that Tony will most likely not be appearing in the new season.
