24 without Tony just doesn't work! Look at the facts - the only season Tony's not been in was season six, and apart from the first four episodes which, ironically, were some of the best of all seven series, the rest of six was rubbish! Also, alongside Jack Bauer, Tony is the only character capable of carrying the series if Keifer was to move on and they wanted to continue. I accept after season 7 that's a more difficult proposition in one way, but how much more interesting in another way to have a main character who is now a total anti-hero? Although Tony certainly went one step further than Jack ever has last season, Jack's no saint, so in many ways Tony's character is where Jack could have easily ended up given the right set of circumstances. I don't think season eight will be last and I think the writers will warm to the idea of setting stories closer together after this season, having done it with 7/8, so it's entirely possible that Tony could turn up in the last couple of episodes in a twist ending to set the scene for season nine. In fact the writers work so hard to create brilliant cliffhangers to keep us coming back week after week, I'd love to see the ultimate cliffhanger, where the main storyline isn't completely resolved in the 24 hours for once and is picked up straightaway in the first episode of the next series. Tony's comeback in some way would be perfect for such a move.
