Archive for 2009 // February

Due to Kat’s insane schedule this week, she was unable to do the OESR, so I am filling in for her.

Summary

The episode opens with Erika confronting Sean because she has found out about the warrant he issued on Jack and Renee’s vehicle.  At first it seems like Erika has busted him as the mole when BOOM WTF we realize that Erika is working WITH Sean against the FBI!!!  There are not one, but TWO moles!  They’ve been exchanging more than just bodily fluids, they’ve also been exchanging dastardly treasonous deeds!  Erika is worried that Sean’s carelessness will expose them, as the suspicious warrant leads directly back to him, but Sean assures her he has everything under control.

Meanwhile, the car carrying Marika arrives at Dubaku’s location.  Dubaku is immediately hostile, prattling on about how he thought he could trust her and he doesn’t understand why she would betray him and blah blah blah.  Marika admits that the FBI told her of his true identity.  Dubaku, who demonstrates that his heart and his brain clearly cannot function simultaneously, tries to convince her that the evidence the FBI showed her was a bunch of lies fabricated by his enemies.  He tells her he is a “forgiving man” and that he still wants her to leave the country with him, imploring her to recognize that underneath all the genocide and murder and terrorism, he’s still the man she fell in love with.  Marika realizes the only way she can stay alive at this point is by playing along, so she tearfully agrees and they get into an SUV with Dubaku’s driver.  As they drive, Dubaku receives a call from Ryan Burnett, assuring him that his plane is all gassed up and ready to go.

DigitalSpy Q&A with Jon Cassar

Posted by Kasia on February 24, 2009 at 8:25pm » 9 Comments

I kinda missed the boat on this when when it first came out a couple of weeks ago, but there is some good stuff in this Q&A with Jon Cassar from DigitalSpy.  Highlights:

On where the issue of torture is going:

[...] we deal with it almost all year. It becomes a learning situation for the two characters involved, and then it informs the audience in a way. So Jack is learning from Renee, and Renee is learning, almost the wrong things, from Jack.

On Kim:

She’s definitely more mature. She’s got her own family, which is obviously a completely different dynamic for her. Not just a boyfriend, but virtually a family. Also, like all of us that think their parents aren’t that great, we start to realise that they’re not so bad when we have a family of our own. So there’s a maturity level to her that’s gonna make what she does and how she plays in the show really different.

Quick Thoughts on 7×10

Oh, that man Almeida! He sure knows how to make an entrance! Not only did he reappear out of nowhere with information that will keep the season from ending after only 10 episodes, but the place where he reappears couldn’t be more significant: the steps at the West Front of the White House, where Presidents have been inaugurated for almost 30 years. The daylight is fading, the sky is almost unrealistically technicolor pink, and between the White House and the Washington Memorial, you see the Badass Aviator Sunglasses walk into the picture and you think, “Just when you thought it was over, Jack… This ain’t over yet.” The whole scene was perfect in every way. Jack’s initial reaction, Tony’s calm explanation, and the brotherly hand on Jack’s shoulder…

DAMMIT!  I had my great intro all planned out and then I said the wrong episode number.  Oh well, sooner or later I’ll get it right.  I was just thankful for the lack of any TGOVD-related inconveniences tonight.

MiniBrief with Kasia & Matt – 7×09

Posted by Kasia on February 24, 2009 at 12:18am » 1 Comment

This is the best you’re going to get on Episode 9, I’m afraid.  kat and I didn’t get the chance to record for 7×09, so you will have to make do with this.  It’s not really a proper debrief as much as an esoteric chat, but we discuss Pierce and so on.  Includes the infamous “aviator sunglasses” discussion.  Once again, typos are intact — too lazy to edit.

Matthew says:
so PIERCE?

Kiki says:
PIERCE!!!!!

Matthew says:
amazing

Kiki says:
i’m sorry i was not more on top of the PIERCE celebration, i was still in “travel head” mode when i saw the episode and haven’t really talked to you

Kiki says:

The Guardian Interviews Carlos Bernard

Posted by J_A on February 20, 2009 at 3:23pm » 7 Comments

Can you tell I’m bored?

Here’s another article with Carlos Bernard I’ve come across tonight while googling the world wide web. This one has been published by the British guardian.co.uk website a couple of weeks ago. At first, I doubted whether this is an actual interview or some journalist’s creative mind coming up with the text, but I’ve decided to share it for the simple reason that it’s giving us something other than the “Did you know you were coming back?” kind of questions.

Some of the stuff is old, like the fact that he was originally supposed to be a “backbiting techie Jewish guy” on 24, or the mention of the pot prank with Mia Kirshner on the Season 4 set. But did you remember that Almeida could have been a Tonio Almeida and we have Kiefer to thank for Tony? I didn’t. Besides 24, there’s talk of magic, hypnosis, and reincarnation.

About Season 7, Carlos states the following:

When it came time to actually air it I really did wonder, “Does anyone give a flying fuck about this show any more?” There was this feeling that we busted our ass for a year and a half and does anybody even care? So it’s a great surprise to us that there’s been a pretty amazing response. It’s got the same qualities as the first two seasons.

With the caveat that I’m not necessarily hearing Carlos using the expression “flying fuck” – this is quite interesting. I can see them sort of being worried that no one would care, but I didn’t actually expect to hear it said (or well, read it).

Talking Facial Hair and Aliens with Carlos Bernard

Posted by J_A on February 20, 2009 at 2:39pm » 3 Comments

I’ve just stumbled across this relatively new interview that I don’t think we’ve posted here, so here it goes. Carlos is talking to TV Verdict mostly about his latest movie, “Alien Raiders”, which, if you haven’t seen and you don’t mind a little gore and alien goop, you should definitely check out. I bought the DVD of the 85 minute Sci-fi thriller and I love it. It actually won 3 prizes last year, according to IMDB. Carlos plays the leading part, so needless to say, I think it’s a must for any Carlos fan!

A little bonus for all of us Season 7 Tony lovers: the fliming of “Alien Raiders” took place during the work on 24’s Season 7, so Carlos sports the exactly same look as he does on the show, complete with Soul Patch Plus 5 o’clock shadow and dark clothes! Of course, this fact doesn’t make it easier to separate Tony from his character in the movie (Aaron Ritter). You’ll also notice other familiar faces, most notably Rockmond Dunbar, the actor playing C-Note on Prison Break. I like the story and I’ll describe it as Tony having a field day without Jack – or What Tony does on his day off.

Additionally, in the interview, Carlos talks about his work on 24, Jack/Tony and Kiefer/Carlos rivalry, stunts and fake blood. I’ve enjoyed reading it, and I’m sure you will, too!  Highlights:

On stunts:

I do most of my stunts. In this movie, I think I did about 85% of stunts. There’s some stuff that you can’t do, like the scene at the end when the monster tosses me into the freezer. They wouldn’t let me do that one. The same thing for 24, I try to do most of my stunts, but if Tony is falling 20 feet, the producers won’t let me do that.

Official Debrief for 7×09

Posted by Kasia on February 20, 2009 at 12:13pm » 13 Comments

I’ve been getting a few queries from people wondering if Kat and I will be doing a video for Episode 9.  The short answer is … maybe.  We had originally planned to do one on Tuesday, but I had only gotten in from Las Vegas at 4 am that morning and by the time the evening rolled around, I was absolutely exhausted from traveling and in no shape whatsoever to be on camera.  Kat was also really busy and me canceling on her ended up working out better for her in the end as well.  She’ll most likely be coming over on Monday for Episode 10, so if our schedules work out and we have time, we might do something short on Episode 9 while we are waiting for Episode 10 to begin.  But we’re not promising anything.  It has nothing to do with Tony not being in Episode 9, or not liking the episode, it was simply a case of the fact that I was completely knackered after my trip and I couldn’t fit it all in.  I had to go back to work on Wednesday morning and I needed to decompress, which took precedence over making the video.
