Transcript of Webcast with Evan Katz

Posted by Kasia on December 30, 2008 at 10:46pm » 3 Comments

Writer and executive producer Evan Katz dishes on Season 7 and fields some pretty tough questions from fans.  Highlights:

Carlos Bernard will return as Tony Almeida and, like both of them, I’m a Chicago Cubs fan. Will the Cubs mug, which survived the CTU explosion of Season 2, also return?

EK: I’m sorry, you’re not authorised to know that.

[...]

I would like to know how the strike impacted the new season creatively. Of course it was devastating for the industry, but speaking from a purely creative point of view of 24, did it improve the scripts? I can imagine the writers having the adequate time to produce the best possible material and story lines, as well as avoiding the bumps and pitfalls inevitable with rushing the writing coupled with a strict time-frame.

EK: Interesting question. As hard as the strike was on the Hollywood community, and on the cast and crew of the show (including the writers), I do think the pause gave us more time to reflect and formulate the season. I wouldn’t in any way say I’m glad it happened, but I do think the show benefited from it creatively.

Poll Results: What Do You Think of the New AIG.com?

Posted by Kasia on December 29, 2008 at 7:10pm » Comment

Question: What do you think of the new AIG.com?

67% (36 votes) – I love it … great job!
31% (17 votes) – I liked the old AIG.com better, but I’m still glad you’re back.
2% (1 vote) – This site is still around?
0% (0 votes) – It’s ok … I’m indifferent.

We didn’t get a ton of responses to our first poll back after the relaunch, but of the respondants who did vote, the verdict is overwhelming.  You love us!  As for those who voted that you preferred the old AIG.com, I am curious as to what aspects of the new site made you vote this way.  Did you prefer the old content format?  The old aesthetic concept?  If you chose this option, feel free to leave me your feedback in the comments section.  While I will definitely not be changing the new format, it is always good to get feedback!

In keeping with our spoilers policy, I will not provide any details about the footage contained in this video except to say that it depicts a scene between Jack and Tony which was not included in the “First 17 Minutes” teaser from the 24: Redemption DVD. Skip to the 0:58 mark for the Jack/Tony stuff. WARNING: DON’T GO IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW.

This poll was running on AIG.com from September of 2007 to November of 2008 when I changed formats and relaunched the site, and I never got around to posting the results.  So here they are!

Question: What is your opinion on the recent news of Tony’s resurrection?

43% (435 votes) – I think it’s ridiculous, but who fucking cares? It’s TONY!
39% (396 votes) – I’m speechless with pure joy!
14% (148 votes) – I can’t respond because I have to clean up after wetting myself in excitement.
3% (30 votes) – I’m speechless with pure disgust!
1% (10 votes) - I’m indifferent.

24: The Ultimate Guide

Posted by Kasia on December 19, 2008 at 8:38pm » 4 Comments

So yeah, you already know that it was my birthday yesterday.  As a gift, I received the 24: The Ultimate Guide coffee table book.  While the book really isn’t telling me any new information that I didn’t already know, it is BEAUTIFULLY illustrated with photos and graphic art that alone are worth the very reasonable cover price of $24.99 USD/$29.99 CAN.  The layout and visual style of the book is gorgeous and captures the aesthetic of the series very well.  Fun features like a spread on the “CTU Arsenal”, which covers all of the nasty weapons used in 24, make it a very nice addition to the 24 Ouvre for any serious fan.

I was pleased to see that Tony Almeida, as with all the essential major characters, got a 4-page spread, as opposed to just a 2 page spread.  However I was VERY disappointed that the book didn’t give a louder shout-out to George Mason and Ryan Chappelle.  Chappelle didn’t even get a character page to himself!!!  He was just lumped in with all the other “Senior CTU Officials”.  For shame, 24: The Ultimate Guide!

However, at the end of the day, a coffee table book of any kind is about stunning visual presentation and making something that people will enjoy picking up and flipping through.  In that regard this book definitely delivers.  I will try to scan some of the artwork from the book to post in the Gallery when I get a chance.
