According to Michael Ausiello, as well as tvbuddy.com, Elisha Cuthbert is slated to return as Kim Bauer in the last act of Season 7. While Kim Action is not absolutely crucial this season (we know there will be at least one more season after this, and as long as there is resolution to the Kim/Jack storyline at some point, I am happy), I for one can say I will be damn glad to see her. Looks like they’re bringing out all the big guns. Bets on when Kim Raver’s guest spot will be announced?

Apparently, not. According to the testosterone-driven server askmen.com, it’s out-dated, washed up, and nowhere near the modern urbane style. And speaking of urbane, some contributors of urbandictionary.com consider the soul patch a safe sign of being gay. Obviously, someone has issues. But of all the people I know who sport the patch, no one seems to pull it off. Maybe there is something to this not cool business after all. Even Stephen Colbert is not a big fan, as he once addressed Bruce Springsteen’s photo saying “You missed a spot.”
There is, however, evidence that the soul patch is actually cool. A lot. It became popular in the 1950s and 60s, with beatniks and jazz musicians. And is there anything even remotely as cool as jazz? Miles Davis and his album Birth of the Cool don’t think so. Musicians, and trumpeters in particular, were fond of this style, as it apparently provided some sort of comfort when using a trumpet mouthpiece. Though notoriously unreliable, I think Wikipedia just might be right about this one. Even Gilette.com is kind enough to provide a very positive review of this facial hair style and also gives some advice on how to do it right. And if the shaving company advises you not to shave everything off, then the soul patch is pretty much guaranteed cool
OK, so I am a loser, but as soon as I saw that the 24: Redemption DVD was being released 2 days after it aired, and … (wait for it) … the DVD would feature the first 17 minutes of Season 7, I knew my ass would be in Best Buy tonight. I won’t go into detail here about actual plot points, because I wouldn’t want to violate my own spoilers policy, and so I want to respect the patience of those who choose to wait until January 11th to see Tony again (but who in their right mind is going to do that?).
I do have some thoughts to share, however.
First of all, let me just preface this by stating that it goes against my entire belief system, and hence the entire belief system of this website, to accept that Tony Almeida will EVER be truly evil. I’m certain that, despite what we’ve seen in previews and trailers, the writers have some kind of trick up their sleeve that will vindicate Almeida and restore the fans’ faith that they haven’t brought the character back with the sole purpose of assassinating it and annihilating everything they’ve established about it in 5 seasons. While the show is already jumping the shark simply by raising Almeida from the dead, it would just be too huge a leap over that Great White for us to believe that everything this man is, is completely changed. I have to believe that Carlos Bernard would not have agreed to do this in the first place if there was not still some authentic, legacy Almeida-ness within the character.
All that being said, however, there is no doubt that the Almeida we will see come January will be different from the Almeida we have come to know and love thus far. Given that we still have absolutely no idea what the circumstances were behind his alleged “death”, it is hard to say exactly how he has changed or why he is where he will be come the premiere. But we can deduce based on what we know that losing Michelle caused him to succumb to his dark side.
So … what are some of the pros and cons to this new Tony?
Well, the movie has aired. It was about as I expected … it was entertaining, but it didn’t exactly blow me away. It was good to bridge the gap a bit between where we left off at Season 6 (um, where did we leave off, anyway? I have only the vaguest recollection of how it all ended with all the characters we revisited tonight because I haven’t watched any of Season 6 at all since it was shown on TV) and where we will be when Season 7 premieres. Bright spots were definitely Powers Boothe and Peter McNichol reprising their respective roles as Noah Daniels and Tom Lennox.
Welcome back, everybody, to the new iteration of AlmeidaIsGod.com. Yes, we are back for Tony’s resurrection and Season 7, as if you had any doubt. We have a new look! We also have a few changes happening that we’d like to tell you about.
During the dismal hours of Seasons 5 & 6, and the long hiatus until Almeida’s return, Lost officially overtook 24 in the race for Kasia’s Favourite TV Show. I can’t say Favourite TV Show of All Time, because my fandom of Lost could never achieve the same pinnacle of obsession as my fandom of 24 during its peak. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen whether the much-anticipated seventh season will restore 24 to its former place in my heart.
This is why it thrills me to discover that the enormously talented Reiko Aylesworth, whose skills are sorely missed in her role as Michelle Dessler on 24, will be doing a multi-episode stint on the coming season of Lost.
Details available in this TVGuide.com article. Thanks to 24 Addict for the heads up.
The final moments of the trailer, where Jack throws Tony up against the wall screaming “I’ll kill you, and this time you’ll stay dead!” left me shaking my head muttering ai-yi-yi!!! What will become of the brotherhood?
I’m still confident that Almeida will prevail and by the halfway point of Season 7, he and Jack will be back on the same side … but holy fuck, is Jack/Tony action ever gonna get intense come January!
